The National Honor Society (NHS) at Wellman-Union I.S.D. is an organization that promotes appropriate recognition for its students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Students are eligible to apply for membership in the National Honor Society during their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year, provided they have a grade point average of at least a 90 or above.

In addition to academic excellence, selection for membership is based on exhibited leadership, honorable, and admirable character, as well as service demonstrating that the prospective member is willing to use talents and skills for the improvement of society. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based upon their evaluation of the candidates: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

Wellman-Union National Honor Society Bylaws

The STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) assessments are given annually for the following:

  • 3rd-8th Mathematics and Reading
  • 4th and 7th Writing
  • 5th and 8th Science
  • 8th Social Studies
  • End of Course (EOC) Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, U.S. History
